Bingöl is a small provincial city in eastern Turkey, nestled among the rugged Taurus mountains at approximately 1,100 metres elevation. Known for its pristine river valleys, ancient fortress ruins, world-renowned mountain honey, and the dramatic Göynük Canyon, Bingöl offers authentic eastern Anatolian culture well off the standard tourist trail.
Bingöl is connected to the rest of Turkey primarily by air (Bingöl Airport BGG, daily flights to Istanbul and Ankara) and by intercity coach from the otogar (bus terminal) on Şehit Güven Caddesi. There is no rail connection to Bingöl city. Within the city, dolmuş (shared minibuses) run fixed routes for TRY 10–15 (~$0.30–$0.45 USD), and taxis are widely available. For day trips to canyons, villages, or districts, private taxis or rental cars are the most practical option.
