Bingöl is a small provincial city in eastern Turkey, nestled among the rugged Taurus mountains at approximately 1,100 metres elevation. Known for its pristine river valleys, ancient fortress ruins, world-renowned mountain honey, and the dramatic Göynük Canyon, Bingöl offers authentic eastern Anatolian culture well off the standard tourist trail.
Bingöl has a semi-continental climate influenced by its elevation (~1,100 m). Winters (December–March) are cold with significant snowfall; temperatures can drop to -15°C (5°F). Summers (June–August) are warm to hot with daytime highs of 28–32°C (82–90°F) and cool nights. Spring (April–June) and autumn (September–October) are the best seasons to visit, with mild temperatures and wildflowers or golden foliage respectively. Annual rainfall is approximately 550–650 mm, concentrated in spring.
