Erzincan is a provincial capital in eastern Turkey set at 1,185 metres in a broad valley carved by the Fırat (Euphrates) River. The province stretches from the volcanic peaks of the Mercan Mountains in the west to the high plateaux bordering Erzurum in the east. Erzincan is renowned throughout Turkey for two things: its exquisite telkari silver filigree jewellery tradition and its Tulum peyniri — a crumbly, pungent cheese matured in a goatskin pouch. The surrounding landscape rewards visitors with deep river gorges, thermal springs, Urartu-era ruins, and one of eastern Turkey's best ski resorts at Ergan Mountain.

Girlevik Waterfall Walk
An easy 3 km return trail (1–1.5 hours) to a 20-metre waterfall 12 km south of Erzincan. The path is broad and suitable for children aged 5 and above. Pack a picnic.
Ergan Mountain Skiing
Ergan Ski Resort has beginner slopes and a ski school appropriate for children from age 5. Rental equipment (including children's sizes) is available on-site at 200–350 TRY / $4.35–7.61 per day for kids.
Erzincan Archaeology & Ethnography Museum
The city museum displays Urartu bronze artefacts, Roman-era finds, and traditional Eastern Anatolian textile and craft exhibits. Engaging for children aged 7+. Entry is very affordable.
Mama Hatun Külliyesi Visit
The circular 12th-century Seljuk caravanserai at Tercan features a dramatic circular courtyard and türbe (mausoleum) that children find impressively castle-like. The 65 km drive passes through scenic highland country.
Kemah Gorge Castle Explore
The ruined castle at Kemah overlooks the Euphrates gorge and has open ramparts for children to explore. The easy walk from the town below takes 20 minutes and feels like a real castle adventure.
Erzincan City Park (Cumhuriyet Parkı)
The main city park on the Fırat riverside has playgrounds, shaded picnic areas, and a small fun-fair section in summer. Ideal for toddlers and younger children needing a safe outdoor space.
Telkari Silver Workshop Watching
Craftsmen in the Erzincan bazaar work telkari silver filigree by hand — older children and teenagers are fascinated watching the fine-wire weaving. Purchases make meaningful souvenirs.
