D-Hotel Maris Bay

D-Hotel Maris is a design-forward luxury resort occupying a secluded private bay at Hisarönü Mevkii, 28 km south of Marmaris on the Aegean coast of Turkey's Muğla province. The property was designed with input from Philippe Starck and opened in 2013 as one of Turkey's most architecturally ambitious hotel projects. The main structure rises dramatically from the hillside above the bay, its cascading terraces, glass facades, and infinity pools oriented to maximise views across the Aegean toward the Greek islands in the distance. The hotel's most discussed feature is its submerged dining venue — a restaurant set beneath the bay's surface with panoramic underwater windows allowing diners to observe fish, octopus, and Mediterranean marine life during meals. Rooms and suites are furnished in a clean contemporary style with neutral palettes offset by commissioned artwork from Turkish and international artists. Multiple infinity pools cascade down the hillside toward the private beach, creating dramatic water architecture running from the clifftops to the sea. The spa complex draws on traditional Turkish hammam methods and international wellness treatments, with particular attention to marine-inspired therapies using Aegean salts and algae. A yacht marina accommodates visiting private vessels, and the hotel operates its own boat for excursions to nearby coves and the island ruins of ancient Loryma on the Bozburun Peninsula. Access to the resort is by private road only, reinforcing the sense of seclusion that the D-Hotel brand cultivates. The surrounding Bozburun Peninsula contains some of the Turkish Aegean coast's least-developed coastline, making the resort an ideal base for combining luxury accommodation with sailing and coastal exploration.
