Konya is one of Turkey's oldest continuously inhabited cities, lying at the heart of the Anatolian plateau at 1,016 m elevation. It served as the capital of the Seljuk Sultanate of Rum (1077–1307) and is revered worldwide as the birthplace and final resting place of the 13th-century Sufi mystic and poet Mevlana Jalal ad-Din Rumi. The Mevlana Museum — one of Turkey's most-visited sites — draws pilgrims and curious travellers alike to its turquoise-tiled dome. Beyond spiritual tourism, Konya offers an extraordinary concentration of Seljuk monuments, a lively bazaar district, and a regional cuisine famous for etli ekmek (elongated meat-topped flatbread) and firin sut (baked milk dessert). As a conservative, predominantly religious city, Konya offers a glimpse of traditional Anatolian life rarely found in Turkey's coastal resorts.
Konya is Turkey's most conservative major city, and nightlife reflects this character. Traditional bars and nightclubs are rare; the city's evening culture centres on tea houses (çay bahçesi), dessert cafes, pastry shops, and pleasant evening strolls through illuminated parks and squares. Licensed restaurants in hotels and some Selcuklu district establishments serve alcohol. The atmosphere after dark is family-friendly and peaceful rather than party-oriented.

Selcuklu Commercial District
The most modern area; has cafes, dessert houses, and some restaurants with alcohol licences. Area around Ataturk Boulevard and Yeni Istanbul Caddesi has the highest concentration of evening venues.
Mevlana Square (Aziziye)
The atmospheric square around the Mevlana Museum is beautifully lit at night. Street vendors, tea stalls and cafes ring the square; pleasant evening promenading.
Alaeddin Park
Families and couples fill this central park on warm evenings. Tea kiosks and ice cream vendors create a low-key but enjoyable outdoor atmosphere.
Meram Bağları (Gardens)
In spring and summer evenings, the Meram district garden restaurants west of centre host large family gatherings with mangal (barbecue) and live music.
