When to hike
Seasonal conditions in Vanuatu.
- Dry Season
- May-October is the best hiking season — trails are drier, visibility is clearer, and conditions more predictable. Mount Yasur accessible year-round.
- Wet Season
- November-April brings heavy rain that makes some trails slippery and impassable. River crossings on the Millennium Cave trek become dangerous during this period.
- Year Round
- Mount Yasur and Mele Cascades operate year-round but can be affected by heavy rain. Always check current conditions with operators before departing.
- Cyclone
- Cyclones hit December-March and can make all hiking dangerous. Monitor the Vanuatu Meteorology & Geo-Hazards Department website.
